When are tryouts scheduled?
Tryouts for the 2010 schedule will be held in December ‘09/January ‘10. Please check the website for updated dates and times.
I have never played football before and don’t know much about positions/play/etc? Can I still tryout?
Definitely! Most ladies that tryout have never played organized football, however some have played other high school and college sports (softball, basketball, soccer, etc). Our coaching staff will teach you everything you need to know to play football. All you need to bring is a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
I don’t have an “athletic” body. Can I still tryout?
For sure! In football, unlike most other sports, players can range from 5ft 100lbs to 6ft 350lbs! We need ladies of ALL shapes and sizes to fill positions. Again, the most important traits we are seeking are a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
What is the time commitment?
The Prowlers season lasts from about mid-January to mid-June. Games start late April-mid June.
During preseason, practices are held three times a week, usually two weeknights and a Saturday morning practice. Practices are usually 3 hours long. During the season, games are played on Saturday nights. We will usually practice twice a week with an additional practice for film review. In addition, away games will require out-of-state travel, which will usually require a Saturday and Sunday.
What equipment will I need?
Each player must provide their own equipment: helmet, shoulder pads, leg and thigh pads, and cleats. Please contact us for information on where to obtain these items.
Will I get hurt?
As with all sports, there is always the possibility of injury. However, the Prowlers have a dedicated staff of coaches and trainers that provide instruction on how to do things the correct way, minimizing the opportunity for injury.
Where do we travel?
The WFA has teams located throughout the US, with teams divided into divisions by geographic location. Most of the teams we play are located in Southern California and Nevada, although travel is not limited to those areas.
Where do we play/practice?
Games are played Saturday nights at Moon Valley High School in Phoenix. Practice locations will be located around the valley. Check back for updated info as we near the 2010 season.
